Current goals

Now that raid enthusiasm has diminished, what are you fine folks working on now?

My regional dex is mostly complete (togetic, moltres and articuno remain), and I have plenty of work on the rat, fish and other medals. This is more about completion than anything else. I don’t like unturned stones.

I also hope to get more high-IV goodies, but those also for their own sake. That, and I want an enormous candy stash for certain things like rhyhorn when their beefy older siblings are released.

I finally have over 100k stardust! That was my goal for the summer. I will soon be stardust-destitute again when I power up my “bite, crunch” Gyrados & “snarl, foul play” Houndoom. I guess my next goal will be to get a fierce squad together for Mewtwo!

I’m digging that doggie.

Fine idea with the Houndoom and Gyarados.  Yeah, I have a near-perfect FC/XS Scizor I’m working on powering up in preparation for Mewtwo.  It’s fun to use and should be a decent counter, especially if Focus Blast Mewtwo promises to demolish my Ttar squad.  I already have more Gyarados than I know what to do with, and my Houndoom squad is not dust-worthy at the moment.

The YouTubers who went to Japan used a bunch of Gyarados with bite & crunch to beat Mewtwo. Their Tyranitars died after one hit. I used all my fast passes trying to get Shadow Claw on my Gengar before I realized it’s a legacy move!! I’ll probably power up a Gyarados squad with bite & crunch. We need another double dust event.

Let me add to what you wrote about the Tyranitars being taken out in one hit. That happened because the Mewtwo they were fighting had Focus Blast  (Fighting move) as a charged move. Otherwise the Bite/Crunch Tyranitar would still be the best choice against Mewtwo. You probably already know this, but I’d hate for someone else to read that and stop using Ttranitars against Mewtwo. T-ran is still the best choice except for Mewtwos with Focus Blast because of T-rans weakness to fighting moves.

Ahh thanks, Gerd. Is there a way to know when Mewtwo has focus blast before the raid starts? Does the game automatically pick good defenders? Thanks!

If your not using something like Pokehuntr, you can have someone go into the raid and fight until it exposes it’s charged moveset. Then they just back out, heal the one wounded mon, until it’s time for the actual raid.

Other than half-heartedly powering up a few key ones when I get the dust, I don’t really have any goals 🙁

These are the pokemons that I’m working on,
hopefully by the time I reach level 40, they’ll all be fully powered up.

New J-O-B and traveling is making things a little challenging right now. I am under 700k from 40 and still do not have a Shiny(read Red Gyarados) yet so those are my two top priorities. Secondary is to catch a 100% Moltres and Lugia. Already have the other two. I have a 96% and 93% Lugia as well as the same for Moltres. It is more a round out the team thing to keep it interesting as you described earlier, Gerd. Even came up with a term for it – RFS aka Raid Fatigue Syndrome.

Wow, Ghost, I need to go back to old posts and figure out what your average XP gain per day has been since you turned 38, but it must be enormous. > 100,000 per day?

Congrats on the 100 IVers. Haven’t got to experience that yet with the legendaries. So i have to admit I’m pretty jealous. But things are looking up. I caught a 93 IV Articuno and a 91 IV Lugia in my first 2 raids on the first day they started. Then for 3 weeks, I couldn’t seem to catch anything higher than an 87. I guess I just got in one of those funky streaks. Over the weekend, I finally caught a 96 IV Moltres. And Lugias have been even better. Caught a 93, 96, and a 98 IVer. I’m getting closer to that 100. Pretty pumped about the Lugias actually. It’s one of my favorite Legendaries. Other than raiding, of which RFS is certainly prevalent, I started working on my other account. That being the one I had started back in October when I had caught everything and was getting bored. I only started it to see how long it would take me to finish another Dex. Then the Halloween event started and that account fell by the wayside. Once I hit 40 though, my daughter said “I guess you’ll just have to star over.” I said “Heeeey. That’s a good idea.”:-) My wife did not agree. Anyway, I’m up to level 34. We’ll see where it takes me.

Honestly, the raids are cool. But they are not my preference. My main goal right now is to figure out what voodoo I need to use to get Niantic to drop Gen 3. I’m really more of a hunter than a raider.

Are you having fun with the level 34 account now, or have you already achieved all your goals in that account?  I’m pretty much coasting now, doing very little, waiting for Gen 3.  I’ve started going after two new gold gyms a week (which is do-able if I already have a start on them, but overly ambitious if I’ve never touched them before), and I’m doing 3 free raids every other day (the third with two-days-worth of gym coins) because I think it’s more fun to do three in a row than 1 every day.  I’m catching in the background when I run errands or gymming, but I haven’t been hunting in ages.  Too hot out there.  I stopped running paid incubators just after raids started, and once I get tired of my three raids every two days, I’ll just start collecting coins in preparation for Gen 3 incubators and dust in preparation for Mewtwo.  There’s nothing I really want to catch now, and I don’t have anything worth powering up that I don’t already have three of, so I have no motivation for hunting.  If I get a good local nest on Wednesday evening, I might get back out there, but I’m not sure what will count has “good”.  I have a local Magikarp nest now, and I haven’t spent more than 5 minutes at the park.  Just can’t seem to care.

The nerfing of rare candies and golden berries didn’t help RFS.

Mod

What you mean nerfing of rare candies and golden berries, that’s the first time I have heard about that?

Trainer
on August 22, 2017

I think she means raid wins yielding fewer rare candy and instead dropping potions and such.

Or the fact that rare candies pretty much hosed the game’s mechanics.

Trainer
on August 22, 2017

Fewer rare candies and golden berries given out in raids now because some idiot, uh I mean some nice tranditionist player on TSR posted how it was destroying the game mechanics, and people upvoted it.  Maybe if you do a Ghost-style number of raids, it’s a problem, but I was using all my candies for powering up legendaries, and I don’t want to walk them 20 km for each candy.  It’s now a net loss on Golden Razz in raids if you use them to catch the boss, too.  Oh well.  Better than not getting any rewards from raids, I guess, but you can get potions and revives from regular pokestops and gyms — don’t want them as a raid reward.

Trainer
on August 23, 2017

Agreed Dos. What they should have done was leave it the way it was, but add potions. That would have been helpful. Especially since time allocated to raids has diminished previous time spent spinning. Then again, if you really want to give us rewards that mean something, how about you reward us DUST! Just sayin.

Trainer
on August 23, 2017

Not just tome spent spinning, but time spent grinding. Do I want to walk five laps around Bane or Nob Hill or do I want to track down a Lugia? Usually the lugia wins. And since grinding is the only legit way to get reliable amounts of dust…

Trainer
on August 24, 2017

Is there an illegitimate way to collect dust? At this point, I might be interested.

Trainer

It involves a duck, a crowbar and some paprika. The next steps are somewhat difficult to explain.

Trainer
on August 24, 2017

Ok. I’ve got the crowbar and the paprika. But I can’t seem to catch this dam duck.

For those liking Voltes5’s idea of a demon doggie to combat mewtwo, Nottingham Park (near Kirkwood and I-10) is now a houndoom nest. The few lunch hours I have left at my job near there will be spent gathering litters of horned puppies.

Hi gang! I hope everyone made it through Harvey in one piece. If anyone needs help, please ask. I know this group is a bunch of good people. It’s been busy Harvey notwithstanding. Starting the 6th week of a new J-O-B and was out of state for the first 4.

So that finally happened August 30 out in Salt Lake City. It does change how you play the game. The raids have been a blast! Love talking with everyone. Have met all kinds of nice people in Ohio and up here in The Woodlands. Oh, if you have never been to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame and have any passion for music, it it a bucket list entry.
