Lessons Learned – Life and Game

I learned a few things over a weekend of hard hunting I thought to share with my brothers and sisters-in-arms. Most of you probably already know some or all of this but tweaking a little bit, the old adage that if you have a question, then others in the group probably have the same question, I thought I would put them down on paper. Here goes:

Houston traffic sucks regardless of the day or time.

The instant you start to think you might need to go to the bathroom, said traffic will instantly tie up right after you pass the exit.

Not everyone staring intently at their cell phone while walking around is playing Pokemon Go.

Montgomery County Sheriffs Deputies do not like you being parked in from of a Sprint store spinning and catching at 1:30 in the morning.

The spouse is not real keen on you spinning and catching at 1:30 in the morning.

If you see a car pulled over in a lot by a stop, gym or mon location, it is either a fellow player or a dealer of illicit goods. Neither is really contributing to society at the moment.

I have left nothing in Freeport I have to go back and get. Okay, maybe Heracross if it is proven to be there somewhere.

Now, on to game specific learnings. Even though we are in our own version of The Amazing Race to gold medal mecca, I am a team player and so feel the need to pass on some hard earned wisdom. All of which is likely common knowledge to most of you.

Did you know that when you select a mon to catch and it goes from being in the “field” to being on your screen, little symbols representing the medals said catch will contribute to flash for a few seconds? I have begun to take note of this as I am catching rats or fish in order to save resources/time. If they do not advance the baby/big boy medals, I have begun to skip them. To me, a better allocation of resources.

There are only two things worth spending coins on, incubators and lucky eggs. If you are playing hard, eggs effectively cuts your advancement to the next level in half if that is important to you. Incubators are obvious.

All resources in the game; balls, berries, potions, even stardust (which pains me to admit), whatever, are renewable. Do not be afraid to dump stuff to keep your bag from getting full. You can’t get eggs or special items when you bag is full.

What do you mean by little symbol flashing? Care to share? If you have pic, will be better. These rats must all go to the recycle bin. Lol

Try this again. I had a response for you Kid, and it timed out and I lost it. See the gold ring about the wrap? That signifies that this capture would only contribute to one medal. In this case, the number of mons you’ve caught overall. The color represents the level you have attained. If there were two colored rings up there, it would be saying that this capture will contribute to two medals. It’s an additional bit of information that might help you decide how much resources you want to use to make a capture.

Wow. I am going to have to try that. This is going to save me tons of time with these annoying rats. Thanks for the info.

Ghost – I tested it and it doesn’t apply to xs/xl medal. I caught a rat that only showed the normal medal but it was indeed xs. Back to grinding…

Ghost, I’m not sure what you’re saying.  The ring is gold here because you already achieved the gold medal for normal types, and it’s giving you the catch bonus.  Are you saying that if you don’t have those medals, you should go for the dual types because that will help you progress toward two medals at once?

The ring or rings should always appear for the pokemon, and it doesn’t have anything to do with their size.  It’s the type bonus ring.  If it doesn’t appear, it’s either phone lag, or maybe you are not guaranteed to get the bonus.  Don’t skip those rats and karp!

I understand but when I see two rings, one gold and one silver, I know that the rat will contribute to the baby rat – silver status currently for me. And I get the silver, 2x bonus for having caught more than 50 tiny rats.

Really?  You actually see two medals for rats when it’s tiny??  Wow, I’ve never seen that.

Trainer

That’s the thing. I checked on my after you told me that but I didn’t notice 2 rings and still get a xs. We need more testing. Unless you are seeing more thing than us being Ghost and all. Haha

Kid. I’m sure you know this but if not, then cool. I assume you always check the appraisal when it says xs? Because sometimes it just says the Rattata is below average and thus doesn’t get counted as tiny even though it is listed as extra small(xs). Either way, Ghost is right. The silver medal should show.

I always appraised my Pokemons no matter what it is. I know there were times when I caught a xs but it didn’t get counted. I thought it was because my version didn’t get update yet. Hrm if what you said is true then that’ll have to be look into more. I normally only pay attention to see if it is 100% or not. If not trash it go. Back to his theory, I didn’t see 2 rings when I caught that xs rat that count toward the medal tho. Next time I’ll try to take pics to get this straighten out. Anyone got a pic with the ring beside the type ring. See what this challenge gotten is to do? Lol

Yeah. I’ve freakin had them be XS at 2.0 kgs, but not considered tiny. And then XS at 2.4 kgs, and be considered tiny. I wish they would just make the XS another color for the tiny ones. It’s annoying.

Interesting. School is apparently in session whenever Ghost is around.

Its called getting hit in the forehead by the 2×4. Eventually you learn to duck rather than try to break the board.

Speaking of lessons…anyone care to explain the leaderboard to me?

There is a race to see who closes out all the medals first. Dos is currently the leader and has a pretty solid lead. The sharp money in Vegas is on Dos. Last I heard a 3-1 favorite. Pokefun has been coordinating the media releases and I could be wrong.

You know the medals you get for attaining various levels related to specific types of mons or their characteristics? For example, the Breeder medal for hatching a certain number is eggs, 500 is the Gold medal level. Or the Fairy Tale Girl medal for capturing fairy type mons, 200 is the Gold medal level. They are all lifetime achievement (read grinding) type goals. So we are in a race to see who can get all their 🥇 gold first. Dos is the clear leader right now but it is definitely more an ultra distance race vs. the 100 meter dash. Another way to keep the game interesting and mess with each other some.
