Lockup on startup?

Not sure if anyone is having problems getting into the game. Sometime early this afternoon, the game began freezing upon load. At first reinstalling it fixed the problem, but only for first sign-in. Any sign-in after that caused lockup. I later figured out that I can just delete the game’s cache to get the same effect more easily, but needing to do that just to open the game is garbage. Additionally, game images load slower and overall more lag is experienced.

The wife is experiencing the same issue. Both of us have LG V10s on Verizon.

Anyone have anymore insight?

I couldn’t get on last night, either.  It reminded me of the game’s first week, when they didn’t have enough servers to handle the load.  Either Niantic shut things down for some reason (and a dedicated hack attempt comes to mind as one possibility), or — more likely — the fact that they released the game to India, China, and the rest of the world recently means that we’re back to having server problems again, especially at certain times of day.  There are a whole lot of people in the regions of the world that just got the game.

Have you tried clearing your cache? I assumed it was a bug at first and took that route, not remembering the other countries coming online. You may still be right, but the clearing route worked maybe 9 times in 10 (I repeated it to make sure). Don’t clear data – just the cache – as clearing data requires a few more login steps.

I just checked on Silph Road, and a lot of people are reporting problems after the latest update.  Some are having success after clearing cache (I have to figure out how to do that), some aren’t, some are only having success logging in while on wifi (which would be problematic for me given that the game seems to constantly crash while I’m out and about).  There doesn’t seem to be a consensus fix, but we are not alone.

I did notice it was somewhat wonky last night. Will need to do the cache clearing thing. Thanks for the heads up!

Budda, how do you clear the cache? I was looking and could not find anything on the game. There are likely others who would benefit from a block of instruction as well. Thanks!

Been doing it to me a lot also. I cleared cache didn’t do much. Restarting phone helps most of time, other than that I have just been rebooting app each time until it comes up right, may take 3 or 4 times.

I’m on android 6.0, and the steps are Settings / Storage and USB / Apps / Pokémon GO / clear cache. If that does not work, do the same and clear data (includes cache).

iPhone does not have cache access as easily as Android. You’ll need to either uninstalling the app (joy) or get a third-party cleaner. Search around for a reputable one. I’m not an Apple guy (but I am an apple guy), so I can’t be of much wisdom on this.

Mine has done the lockup a few times. What’s really frustrating for me is opening up the game with nothing there. It’s just land with no Pokémon, no pokestops, and no gyms. It happens quite frequently with me. I always have to shut it down and start over. Usually on the second opening everything appears
