Most disappointing park or other location

Most of us have shared our favorite locations, so here’s the flip side: which places gave you high hopes until you showed up and made you think the place sucked more than a shop vac?

For me, it was the Woodlands Waterway. It was supposedly a Pikachu nest at the time, but none showed up for me or my wife. Same for all those magikarp and dratini about which everyone spoke so affectionately. I know some people score there regularly, but I never went back because of that one time.

Interesting, thanks for the scouting report.  I still haven’t gotten a shiny Magikarp (I decided the game must be waiting for me to encounter a perfect one before it gifts me the shiny, right?), so the Woodlands Waterway was one of the possible places I could go for a Karpfest.  I think I’ll pass now.  We have lots of local Magikarp-rich areas.

I don’t really have any parks I thought sucked more than a shop vac (lol) compared to expectations.  Lots of places are pretty mediocre, but usually that’s expected.  I drove to Baytown Bicentennial Park once based on a Silph Road report that it was a Rattata nest back when I was doing medals.  Not only was it clearly not a Rattata nest, but the spawn rate was low in general, and the breeze was sending the lovely chemical plant stench toward the park.  That’s one to avoid, I guess, unless you’re local.

Trust the words of woodlands regulars like Ghost and not me. It was one time, and many more people have sworn by it.

I would agree with about 80% of your assessment, Buddha. Lately, the number of Dratinis has picked up significantly. But before, they were very few and far between. Daer below reported the number of Magikarp you can catch around the Waterway and he is correct. That being said, and I know shinys are a relatively new thing, but I have 11 Gyarados, 2879 Magikarp candies, and caught 1918 Magikarp. Probably 90% of those were caught around the Waterway and IT HAS NOT SEEN FIT TO SHOW ME A SHINY MUCH LESS CATCH ONE! So yes, it has been a bit of a disappointment. You can definitely gather XP along the Waterway, though. I cannot really think of anyplace that has been a crushing disappointment. I enjoy the actual physical environment of new places so if there is nothing to catch, I try to make lemonade.

Caught 1918? Dayam. I’ve caught 295.

My visit was sometime last summer. Perhaps I need to make another field trip.

And not a shiny in the bunch AND still have not caught 300 of the big ones…

43. I’ll get 300 sometime around June 2031. By then, you, Dos and Gerd will have your own namesake pokemon (hers will be Beerados).

Beerados, that’s funny. I am sitting here at Russo’s enjoying a late lunch and laughing out loud. Thanks, Buddha and thank you Dos for, you know, being Dos.

Thanks :).  I’m now designing a Beerados in my mind.  It will be awesomely powerful, cool, and cute, and then it will get nerfed in the first Niantic CP/move rebalance.

Also, you’ll be like Alakazam, but instead of spoons, you’ll have a Shiner in each hand.

And GreyToast11B will look like a piece of buttered whole wheat, with arms and legs like a polywhirl.

And Gerder will be a metal / dragon type – an I-beam joist that’s all bendy like a gyarados.

We could go two ways with this. No, wait. The first one, Buddtini, will be shaped like a martini glass and have an olive or two skewered on a toothpick sticking out of the tip of its head. Its powers will ‘Dry’ for the quick move and ‘Drunken’ for its charge move. The second evolution will be Buddhator and will be shaped like a giant golden belly. Quick move could be ‘Shine’ and the best charge move would be ‘Sumo.’

My daughter and I have gotten shiny Magikarps at Mark McGrath Park, but we live next to it and are usually there about 3 hours a day, and generally the park is not known for catching Magikarps. Best place that I know to get Magikarps is Sugar Land Memorial Park, however we never gotten a shiny Magikarp there.

We made a special trip to Galveston and didn’t catch anything worth catching, so far that had been the biggest disappointing pokemon family outing.

I don’t really have any disappointing locations to report. I will say that I just caught my first shiny Magikarp at the waterway at Riva Row 2 nights ago, was able to catch a good 20-30 magikarps in total, approximately 2-3 hours of walking. Along with 2 Dratini. Completed my first Dragonair evolve and got my first Red Gyarados from the shiny! I typically go to the waterway for restocking, hatching, amd Magikarp. Riva Row appears to be an Abra spawn as well, caught 4 or 5 in 30 minutes of sitting at that location between the 3 pokestops.

That’s awesome, those red Gyarados are very cool to look at.

Probably Kitty Hollow Park. I always imagined it’d have lots of neat stuff, but I never caught anything rare there and never saw much spawning at all. Half the time, it didn’t even seem to have nests. Good thing the awesome Oyster Creek Park is just down the road.

If you need Jynx, they are currently spawning at Mark McGrath Park in Meadows Place, TX. It’s not far from your play area. 12001 Brighton Ln, Meadows Place, TX 77477

I would say the worst place would be Monsignor Bill Pickard Park. At the time, I was having a hard time running into Cindaquils and all the previous nests were in the far southeast side of town, Pickard was the first one close by. For a nest, it only spawned 2 every 3 hours. So I have to come back a few days to get my fill. Also there was only one Pokestop.

Never been there and sounds like one I do not need to visit. Thanks for the report. Sorry to hear its so bad. I hate nests like that.
